Required Assurances of Support
Some Australian visas, for people who want to migrate to Australia, need a so-called Assurance of Support.
For the assurance of support, or AoS as it's known, this is usually related to:
- parent visas
- last remaining relative visas
- possibly spouse visas
And usually within family type sponsored visas.
The rates differ for each visa, but the assurance can be in the amount of approximately A$ 10,000 for the first applicant, and A$ 4000 for further applicants on the same visa.
The amount is lodged in a bond, and usually for 10 years.
The assurance of support bond may be lodged by the sponsor, or if not, then by a 3rd party who acts as the assurer for the Australian assurance of support.
If the applicant does not use specific social services during this time, the bond can be received back in full.
